Gym to Crag: Anchors and Rappelling
This class is aimed for climbers looking to get outside on their own, and who are seeking instruction on how to set and clean rope anchors on bolted climbs. This course also covers how and when to rappel. This course happens in the gym to prepare climbers for their own outdoor outings, specifically for sport climbing or top roping on bolts.
Relevant Knots: Bight knots, friction knots and hitches
Common Anchors and Gear Seen Outdoors: Fixed Anchor Systems, Bolts, Hangers, Mussy Hooks, Chains, Quick-Links, Rappel Rings
Going “In-Direct”: What, How, When, Why? Gear used and types of methods for going “in-direct”
Intro to Top Rope Anchor Set Up: 2 Quickdraw Anchor and Quad Anchor set up
Cleaning Styles - Lowering and Rappelling: Learn about and gain confidence in cleaning anchors to lower and cleaning anchors to rappel
Prerequisites: MUST be top rope certified at MetroRock
Must be at least 14 years old
3 Climbers : 1 Instructor with a 2-person minimum

A 2 hour follow up will be offered to all students. They are welcome to set this up individually or with a partner from the class. In the followup students are able to focus on specific aspects of the class more in-depth, in a smaller group setting.
